Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
An older Algerian and his family emigrate to a large city to look for a better life, but soon find that the city has barriers against immigrant Arabs and vices that they did not see back in their own village. The man's son gets involved with the wrong crowd, and his wife and daughter end up working as servants for another family. He himself is unsuccessful at getting a white-collar job, and can only find work as a gardener on a large estate. By then, he is so completely disillusioned with city life that he packs up his family and heads back home -- where they may very well be treated as outsiders on arrival, putting them in a twilight zone between two worlds, with neither world accepting them fully.
