Synopsis by Alice Day
The diseases carried by mosquitoes are among the most resistant to treatment, and include malaria and sleeping sickness. Despite massive spraying with pesticides and other methods of eradication, the insects persist in many parts of the world, continuing to spread illnesses. This misery is particularly prevalent in disadvantaged countries, where the diseases only add to the plight of impoverished people. In Ultrascience 2: Mosquito Wars, scientists discuss how they plan to continue the fight against insect-borne diseases, and whether they are making progress with their current methods.
