Synopsis by Alice Day
It has long been a wish of scientists to decipher the sounds that are made by animals. It is obvious that even lowly insects can communicate with each other, relaying information about food and danger. These sounds are essential to the survival of the animal, and in higher forms of mammals, the information can be more intricate and detailed. Ultrascience 2: Talk to the Animals demonstrates the equipment being used to trying to understand animal sounds, using computers to help unravel the mystery of animal communication. Lessons learned from the animal model shed light on how humans evolved speech.
