Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Based on an extremely popular Japanese game show of the same name, Ultraquiz had already been seen briefly as an American series (starring the comedy team of Rowan and Martin) when it was finally adapted for British television. At the beginning of each season, a thousand contestants were pared down to a hundred or so finalists. These lucky folks would then embark upon a wide-ranging series of verbal quizzes, zany stunts, hilarious humiliations, and breathtaking chases all across England, the Continent, and Asia, beginning in Brighton and ending somewhere in Hong Kong. As the contestants were eliminated one by one, those who'd manage to stick it out to the bitter end engaged in a final, all-out competition for a 10,000-pound jackpot. Presented by ITV's Southern Television, Ultraquiz remained on the air from 1983 to 1985.
