Synopsis by Jonathan Crow
Actor Bimal Roy makes his directorial debut with this drama about a poverty-stricken writer named Anup (Radhamohan Bhattacharya) who works for wealthy businessman Rajendranath (Bishwanath Bhaduri). Anup's gainful employment comes to an abrupt end when the millionaire's sister Sumitra accuses him of theft. Anup devotes himself to his novel and to the affairs of the working class. Rajendranath's dark-hearted son (Devi Mukherjee) steals and plagiarizes the would-be novelist's lifework. Later, as the millionaire's daughter Gopa (Binata Basu) falls deeper and deeper in love with the writer, Anup's socialist activities start to effect Rajendranath's business and his son has him pulped.
