Synopsis by Gönül Dönmez-Colin
In this children's film of adventure and survival, Grandpa Knut takes his grandchildren on a kayak excursion to show them a pair of hatching eagles -- but also to prove he still has what it takes. They paddle out on one of the lakes of the remote Mecklenburg Lake country. But nature harbors many dangers, especially for those who do not respect its laws. Grandpa has a sudden attack and becomes delirious in the middle of a vast terrain of uninhabited forests. There is not a soul in sight, no one to help, and the children must manage on their own. Night begins to fall and it looks like a storm is approaching. Grandpa is feverish and the boat has run aground. They consult the map, which indicates that there is a campsite nearby. They manage to break through the rushes and arrive at a lake where a young fisherman offers to help them. Zwei in einem Boot/Two In One Boat is full of suspense and adventure, which should appeal to pre-teens. Screened at the Children's Film Festival of the 49th International Berlin Film Festival, 1999.
