Synopsis by Hal Erickson
Though Amanda Symonds is the leading character in the British Twilight City, we never see her face. Symonds, portraying a black investigative journalist, narrates this documentary about the "new London." Its newness, represented by development projects in some of the more rundown West Indian neighborhoods, is contrasted with archival footage taken some 10 years earlier. Non-British audiences may be confused by the tone of the film: Symonds seems to be upset by the racism and social boundaries still extant in London, but at the same time she urges other black British subjects to move to the great city. Running 52 minutes, Twilight City is a project of the Black Audio Film Collective.
