Breakdancing is seen by many people as a short-lived fad of the 1980s, but while the hip-hop dance style may have faded from the public eye, it remains vital as an underground phenomenon, with b-boys (as hip-hop dancers call themselves) still working out their gravity-defying moves all around the world. The BC One World Breakdancing Championship is an international event that brings together b-boys from around the world to test their skills on the dance floor and determine who is the best on Earth. Filmmaker Alastair Siddons follows six competitors as they show off their skills at the 2007 finals in South Africa and explain why they're working towards the title in the documentary Turn It Loose. Ben-J is from Senegal and is dancing to represent his fellow b-boys in the Third World. Hong 10 hails from Korea, and is eager to accomplish as much as he can before he's drafted into the Army. Lilou is a French-Algerian b-boy whose asthma hasn't prevented him from becoming a world favorite, though his arrogance hasn't made him many friends among his rivals. Ronnie is a dancer from Las Vegas whose late brother was also a b-boy, and he competes to honor his memory. Mexican-American Roxrite is a fierce competitor with remarkable moves and a determination to win, though he hopes an injury that sidelined him the year before doesn't get in his way. And 17-year-old Taisuke left his home in his teens to follow his dream of becoming Tokyo's leading b-boy, now he wants to show the world what he can do. Turn It Loose was an official selection at the 2010 Seattle International Film Festival.
