Credit is due directors and co-writers Chris Owen and Albert Toro for creating an inventive, brisk story about the gradual degeneration of a young man who leaves his village behind to seek his fortune in the big city. The village youth is not happy about severing his connections with his family and his lifetime environment, but he feels compelled to enter the modern world and so he enrolls in a technical school. The transition turns out to be too abrupt for him, and he does so poorly that he has to quit his classes. Without any viable alternatives, he finds some friends who live on the shady side of the street, and soon his traditional values are buried in the cynicism of his new life, such as it is. This was only the third or fourth film to come out of Papua New Guinea and is well-executed for such an early effort.
