Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein
Based on a 1921 magazine story by a writer delightfully named Hapsburg Liebe, this well-made Hoot Gibson Western starred The Hooter as Dale Garland, a returning veteran who is elected sheriff of his home town. Unbeknownst to Dale, however, he is considered a patsy for Nepo Slayton (Otto Hoffman), a city boss running an unscrupulous protection racket. But Dale, who promises his fellow citizens an honest deal, refuses to be Slayton's patsy and instead uncovers a murder plot. Gibson's leading lady in this film, Patsy Ruth Miller, later became a star as Esmeralda opposite Lon Chaney in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923).
