Synopsis by Jason Buchanan

A young boy living in a provincial mining town near Wroclaw does his best to tempt fate by connecting a handsome commuter with his single mother in writer/producer/director Andrzej Jakimowski's working class family drama. Stefek (Damian Ul) is the six year-old sibling of Elka (Ewelina Walendziak), and the son of a pretty small town shopkeeper (Iwona Fornalczyk). His father abandoned the family when Stefek was just a few years old, so these days the wandering youngster spends most of his time following eighteen year-old Elka and her mechanic boyfriend Jerzy (Rafal Guzniczak) around town. While Elka has been studying Italian in hopes of landing a job at a local Italian firm, Jerzy does his best to remain faithful despite his attraction to shapely village strumpet Violka (Joanna Liszowska). One day, after pondering the manner in which his older sister attempts to shape her own fate though various quasi-magical means, Elka attempts to try his own hand at bargaining with destiny by secretly guiding a commuter who reminds him of his long lost father into the shop of his lonely mother.
