In another of her dual roles, Bessie Barriscale was cast as Mlle Zura, the singer of loose morals at a Parisian dive called the "Black Rat," and Zura's polar-opposite look-alike, virginal Virginia debutante Mary Lee. The tortuous convolutions of the plotline compel sweet little Mary to take the place of Mlle Zura as the Wickedest Woman of Parée. Apache dancer Pierre La Rouge (George Fields) is passionately in love with both girls, and it is his ardor which brings about the film's operatic finale. One suspects that Trick of Fate was concocted as an excuse to display the well-endowed Bessie Barriscale in a variety of revealing costumes. If this was indeed the case, none of the actress' fans were heard to complain.
