Synopsis by Hal Erickson
In Episode 19 of Travels in Europe With Rick Steves, the host finds himself in Normandy, the celebrated invasion target of William the Conqueror in 1066 and the Allied Expeditionary Forces in 1944. Steves' journey into the interior of Brittany includes a stopover at the old capitol of Roeun, an area steeped in history (the 100 Years War and Joan of Arc are among the topics of discussion). The huge tides outside the Mont St. Michel Abbey are also witnessed, as are some of the sites where the great Impressionist painters did their best work. As a bonus, Steves indulges in another gastronomic "tour" of the local delicacies, including cremes, crepes, and Camembert.
