Synopsis by Clarke Fountain
In this somewhat disjointed documentary, a woman documentary artist searches out poor, recent immigrants to Israel and attempts to discern why they have come there. The question she seems to be seeking an answer for is "Why should Israel be a Jewish homeland?" She also attempts to make sense of the Palestinian Arab Intifada (uprising). A good deal of her footage takes in the seedier face of the cities of Israel, perhaps as a corrective to the bright, cheery place seen in so many travelogues.
