Synopsis by Sandra Brennan

This comical farce marks Spanish filmmaker Fernando Trueba's first foray into English language films and features an all-star cast. Art Dodge never made it as a painter, but he has managed to become a successful modern art dealer. He is even more successful as a con artist who scans the obituaries daily and then makes expensive deliveries to the homes of the deceased, insisting to the bereaved family that the dearly departed ordered the art just before passing on. He tries this on businessman Gene Paletto and unfortunately discovers him to be as shrewd and crooked as he. Paletto spots Dodge during his father's funeral and sics his goons upon him. Dodge flees and ends up hiding in the convertible of Betty, Paletto's ditzy ex-wife. Betty and Dodge immediately spark and end up in bed, something Betty equates with a marriage proposal. Though he tries protesting it's to no avail and she gets busy planning the nuptials. Meanwhile Dodge finds himself increasingly attracted to Betty's more pragmatic sister Liz who unfortunately thinks he is only after Betty's money. Determined to have Liz, Dodge further complicates his life by fabricating, Bart, his twin brother. "Bart" is an anguished artist and something about his exquisite pain deeply touches Liz who becomes his lover. Meanwhile Paletto doggedly tries to catch Dodge.
