Review by Fred Beldin

Originally titled Pelvis, then Disco Madness and finally Toga Party, this bad-taste showbiz satire was released by the same production team that financed notorious exploitation director Andy Milligan; it's been reported that an uncredited Milligan shot some softcore skin inserts for the film under its Toga Party moniker, although various versions may or may not contain such footage. Under any title, the film stars Luther "Bud" Whaney as a callow (yet well-endowed) country singer named Pervis who travels to New York City in search of stardom. The story follows a predictable arc that includes fast-talking city hustlers, sleazy talent wranglers, overnight success, and drugs; but each cliché is played in a broad, obvious manner in search of big laughs that never surface. After changing his name to "Pelvis," our hero's hit songs include thigh-slapping numbers like "All Dressed Up in Rubber With Nowhere to Go," "Nazi Lady" (complete with "follow the bouncing ball" lyrics onscreen), and a tune about a man who has sex with a chicken. Nothing is particularly funny and the cast mugs for the camera with an alarming desperation, expelling so much energy that the viewer feels exhausted by the conclusion, which stoops to pie fights and seltzer bottle showers in hopes of a boffo finish. The cast includes several New York porn actors slumming for an easier paycheck, including Beth Anna, Mike De Marco, and Bobby Astyr, and while there's more than a few topless ladies walking by the camera, there isn't a single reference to a "toga party" (or disco music) to be found. The only mildly amusing moment in this multi-titled mess is a bitter, black, and ironic one, when Pervis performs nude on the streets of the city for a publicity stunt. The jaded citizens pay no attention to the naked singer, leading his manager to exclaim, "What do you have to do in New York? Burn the World Trade Center?"
