Telecast every weekday on BBC2, the British game show Today's the Day was distinguished by its topicality. Each episode found two contestant teams vying to correctly answer questions pertaining to recent news events and developments in the world of entertainment. The gimmick here was that all questions were drawn from happenings which occurred the same day as the program was telecast. Rounds included "Stop the Clip," in which the teams pressed buzzers as soon as they were able to identify a film clip, and "Classic TV," which tied in rebroadcasts shown that day on BBC2. Originally hosted by political pundit Andrew Rawnsley when it debuted in 1996, Today's the Day was emceed by newscaster Martyn Lewis for most of its two-year run.
