Synopsis by Robert Firsching
Greek filmmaker Dinos Dimopoulos (Amaryllis, To Koritsi Tis Agapis) directed this award-winning look at a man literally killed by progress. Anestis (Orestis Makris) is a longtime Athens carriage driver whose livelihood is destroyed by the advent of the automobile. He hangs on to his job as long as possible before having to sell his carriage for nearly nothing and selling cigarettes on the street. Eventually, however, his saddened heart gives out and he dies. A subplot about the old man's son (Stefanos Stratigos) and the orphan girlfriend he abandoned is then resolved with a wedding and a visit to Anestis' grave. Antigoni Balakou and Yeorgia Vassiliadou co-star.
