Synopsis by Mark Deming

A man returns to his hometown only to find himself haunted by the ugly events of the past in this thriller from director Juraj Herz. Marek (Ivan Franek) is a successful musician who has grown tired of his career and decides he wants to devote his energies to making visual art. Marek moves away from the city and returns to the home where born and raised. The house is in a small rural community, and Marek sets up a studio where he can work on his paintings in peace. However, the house has a troubled background, and the longer Marek stays there, the more he's haunted by memories of angry and violent events he's tried to wipe from his memory. As Marek is reunited with Lucia (Lenka Krobotova), a woman he loved when they were both young, he's drawn deeper into his past and the crimes of the past threaten to repeat themselves in the present day. T.M.A. (aka Darkness) was an official selection at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
