Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This documentary chronicles the story of this most famous of shipping disasters: the sinking of the "unsinkable" Titanic, on the night of April 14th, 1912. The luxury liner was on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York, when it ran into an iceberg, breaching six of the watertight compartments, thought to make her impermeable to water damage. When the ship went down, over 1,500 people of the 2,200 on board perished. The Titanic remained in an anonymous watery grave until 1985, when her wreckage was discovered by a scientific exploration team. With archival footage, still photography, and an interview with one of the few survivors still alive today, the film traces the tragic story of the Titanic.
