Synopsis by Jason Buchanan
The Emmy Award-winning filmmakers from Kunhardt Productions explore the grassroots campaign to clean up the Hudson River. Back in the 1960s, folk singer Pete Seeger helped to launch the Clearwater, a traditional wooden ship constructed to draw attention to the fact that the Hudson was dying due to industrial pollution. At the time the river was black, and the shores were barren. In the following four decades, funding from music festivals featuring prominent singers and environmental education and advocacy programs offered on the Hudson helped transform a once-polluted cesspool into a healthy river where wildlife flourishes. Original music by Seeger and friends blend with stories of the Hudson's remarkable history to create an inspirational testament to the power of activism.
