Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
This effective compilation film covers three short stories by famous Russian writer Anton Chekhov. The first story, "Anyuta," is a look at misery in a decrepit hotel. The second tale, "A Vengeance," is a biting satire about an older man married to a young woman who seeks retribution against a man after his wife. The last tale, "Vanka," is a sad drama about a little boy who is no more than a servant to his cruel employers, yet he has his own dreams. Each story has a different director -- Marie Andjaparidze, Irima Poplavskaya, and Edouard Botcharov, respectively.
