Synopsis by Mark Deming

A sexy star gets to spend some quality time with her friends while on a photo shoot in this witty and knowing improvised variation on Thai "star films" -- cheaply made pseudo-documentaries which purport to offer a glimpse into the private lives of well-known celebrities. Mamee (Napakpapha Nakprasit) is a successful model and actress who has been best friends with Yo (Penporn Poonsaem) and Belle (Jitraporn Panit) since they were schoolgirls. However, now that Mamee has become famous, her busy schedule prevents them from seeing one another as often as they'd like, so when she's hired for a modeling assignment on a resort island in the tropics, she flies Yo and Belle in to join her. As the three women chat to the camera about one another and their lives together as friends, Belle strikes up a short-term romance with the pilot of a charter boat, Yo struggles to stay in touch with her boyfriend at home, and Mamee gets to know an ecologist visiting from Japan. Ma-Mee (aka Three Friends) received its North American premiere at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival.
