William Newlands (Hobart Bosworth) gambles himself into an enormous amount of debt. To get out of it, he convinces a wealthy but naive girl, Beatrice (Ethel Grey Terry), to marry him. They head for their honeymoon, but the train they are on wrecks. Newlands is assumed dead, and Beatrice nurses one of the other travelers, mine owner Steven Crawford (Landers Stevens), back to health. But Newlands isn't dead after all and he goes to work at Crawford's mine. Because he believes that Beatrice is happy with Crawford, he decides to stay away from her. He is able to hold off a strike at the mine, and all his hard work redeems him. Beatrice has actually kept Crawford at arm's length this whole time, so she and Newlands are eventually reunited. This film was based on the novel, Fate's Honeymoon, by Max Brand.
