In this silent soap opera, orphan Dorothy Warner (Bessie Barriscale) works as a shopgirl to support herself and her little sister. The girl, who is ill, wants a doll, and Dorothy has no money, so she tries to steal one. She is caught, but politician George Graham (Howard Hickman), who happens to be shopping, saves her. They go to Dorothy's to find the child dead, and he then offers her a job as his stenographer. She accepts, and they wind up having an affair. After Graham begins his campaign for district attorney, the political boss decides that he wants Dorothy for himself and tries to break up the relationship. He lets on to Mrs. Graham (Dorcas Mathews) that her husband is having an affair, and she calls Dorothy to her home. In the end, Dorothy sacrifices her job and her love for Graham so that he'll have a political career, and his wife will have him back.
