Originating as a one-shot episode of the BBC drama anthology Detective, Thorndyke was based on a series of novels and short stories by Richard Austin Freeman. Set in Victorian England, this weekly, 50-minute mystery effort starred Peter Copley as Dr. Evelyn Thorndyke, who in defiance of his hidebound superiors liked to use the latest forensic methods of crime-solving. Patrick Newell costarred as Polton. Thorndyke originally aired in 1964.
