Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
The crew of This Old House continues to work on the Duffy project despite heavy rains and flooding. A concrete truck arrives to pump in the mix for the stem walls. A trip to a San Francisco bath showroom turns up some unique fixtures. There is a visit to a rammed earth construction site nearby. Work starts again as a large laminated veneer lumber beam is hoisted into place, spanning the new kitchen. This work deserves a break at the Trefethen Vineyards, Napa Valley's oldest wooden, gravity-fed winery. After the installation of French doors, some concern arises over foundation plantings that are threatening the stability of the house. The next vineyard stop is Opus One, owned by Robert Mondavi and the Rothschild family.
