Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter
This Old House crew members visit Sankaty Head Light, owned by the Coast Guard, on the exposed eastern edge of Nantucket Island. The lighthouse, built in 1850, and the other buildings along the bluff, are in danger of being reclaimed by the Atlantic Ocean. Erosion prevention is discussed by Coast Guard Captain Bill Batson. Meanwhile, the Bentley house renovation continues. The house is reframed, a new hole is cut in the roof for the addition's gable, the new wood shingle roof makes progress, an ambient heating system is considered, and the newly rediscovered old front doors are refurbished. Electricity and lighting options are in the discussion stage for the second floor. The group goes clamming.
