Synopsis by Brian J. Dillard

In this episode of This Life, Miles (Jack Davenport) almost blows off his dad's wedding until Anna (Daniela Nardini) convinces him he should make nice and go; Miles and Anna's relationship seems to have improved, though she's still operating under the delusion that he voted for her tenancy. Anna also goes on a celebratory dinner with Sarah Newly and later laments to Milly (Amita Dhiri) that Sarah would be her soul mate -- if she were a man. O'Donnell (David Mallinson) and Rachel (Natasha Little) return from Paris, and Milly develops an irrational jealousy of their trip, even making nice with Rachel over lunch to mine the details. Meanwhile, Egg (Andrew Lincoln) and Nicki (Juliet Cowan) start making some changes at the café after Mrs. Cochrane (Steph Bramwell), the crotchety owner, goes on holiday. Egg throws a tasting party for some new recipes at the house, but a preoccupied Milly blows it off to work late with O'Donnell. At the party, Nicki's son takes a shine to the decidedly non-maternal Anna, whose troubled relationship with her own mother has been discussed in several This Life episodes. While working late, Milly confronts O'Donnell to find out why he hasn't told her about his estrangement from his wife; he makes excuses and reassures her that he isn't attracted to Rachel. Kira (Luisa Bradshaw-White) and Jo (Steve John Shepherd) definitely are attracted to each other, for they enthuse about their first sexual liaison to whomever will listen. Ferdy (Ramon Tikaram) directs his own amorous attentions toward Lenny (Tony Curran), the redheaded handyman who stops by to fix the plumbing; the two cruise each other stealthily and finally end up in bed. Series two, Episode 12 of the cult-favorite British soap This Life: The Plumber Always Rings Twice first aired on BBC 2 on June 5, 1997.
