Synopsis by Brian J. Dillard

In this episode of This Life, Anna (Daniela Nardini) and Miles (Jack Davenport) solidify their romantic enmity but are forced to work together on a case. When things don't go as planned, Miles becomes convinced that Anna has it out for him professionally. Meanwhile, Milly (Amita Dhiri) gets stuck working with Rachel (Natasha Little), the new trainee whom she instinctively dislikes. Rachel's impulsiveness undermines an important witness interview, but O'Donnell (David Mallinson) is impressed enough with the pert young solicitor that he reassigns Milly to supervise Warren (Jason Hughes) instead. Back at home, Egg (Andrew Lincoln) deals with the boredom and poverty of unemployment by dabbling in scratch cards and off-track betting. He also continues his sexual renaissance with Milly, convincing her to experiment with phone sex while she's at work. This causes no end of amusement for Kelly (Sacha Craise), the gossipy receptionist who had previously been on extended sick leave and whose return to Moore, Spencer, Wright infuriates Kira (Luisa Bradshaw-White). In a huff at having to return to mailroom duty, Kira distracts herself by cajoling Warren to set her up with Jo (Steve John Shepherd), the handsome clerk who works with Anna and Miles. To this end, Warren and Anna arrange an impromptu dinner party and invite both Jo and Kira, though the matchmaking gets off to a shaky start. Meanwhile, Warren tries to channel his frustration over his failed romance with Ferdy (Ramon Tikaram) into his job. When Ferdy shows up at his doorstep, having been dumped by his fiancée and kicked out by his parents, Warren reluctantly allows him to sleep over -- but only platonically. Series two, episode two of the cult-favorite British soap This Life: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? first aired on BBC 2 on March 24, 1997.
