Three friends try to make sense of strange tales from the past, the present and out of this world in this comedy-drama from Costa Rican filmmaker Cesar Caro Cruz. Juan, Amaya and Richi are three friends who are finding themselves at odds with the world around them and not certain where fate is going to lead them. The friends share a belief in certain widely circulated legends about the year 2010, in which the Mayan calendar comes to an end and some believe will mark some sort of global catastrophe. As they try to workout the mystery of 2010 as well as the muddle of their own lives, Juan, Amaya and Richi make their way through several Latin American countries, and when they're not busy chasing stories of ancient prophesies or extraterrestrial invaders, they wonder if love is the thing that they've been missing. Tercer Mundo received its North American premiere at the 2010 Cinequest Film Festival.
