Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

The lives of three women artists whose most significant works were created during the first half of the 20th century are explored in this documentary. Poet Muriel Rukeyser wrote passionately in favor of civil rights, and against war. Anna Sokolow choreographed dances which reflected the tragedy of the Spanish Civil War and the isolation of Jews under persecution. Alice Neel painted portraits and story pictures of labor leaders and the labor movement.
