Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The sixth season of The X-Files ended on May 16, 1999, with the obligatory cliffhanger, this one titled "Biogenesis." A strange metallic object with equally strange symbols is found in Africa. Mulder is convinced that this artifact will prove beyond doubt that life as we know it originated somewhere else in the universe -- specifically, the planet Mars. Scully concludes that the object is a hoax, deliberately designed to send the FBI agents off on the wrong track. But if this is true, why is Mulder hearing those eerie and disturbing voices within his head? Significant appearances by two important figures in Mulder and Scully's past do little to solve the mystery, but they certainly whet the audience's appetite for the seventh-season opener. Part one of a three-part story, "Biogenesis" was written by X-Files producers Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz.
