Synopsis by Mark Deming

Project Citizen is an international educational program designed to teach youngsters between the ages of 11 and 16 how to use activism to improve their communities. Project Citizen reaches kids in sixty-five nations around the world as well as all fifty states in the U.S., and with the organization's help students have organized programs to address everything from proper nutrition for young people to driving drug smugglers out of South American villages. Filmmaker Patrick Davidson offers a look inside Project Citizen, how it works and the young people determined to make a difference in the documentary The World We Want. Examining student groups in Bosnia, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Russia, Senegal and the United States, the film follows them as they learn how to put their ideals into action and use their talent and determination to help make the world a better place. The film also features footage from the annual Project Citizen International Showcase, in which young activists from across the globe meet and share ideas. The World We Want received its world premiere at the 2008 American Film Institute AFI Fest.
