With four murders within a scant 65 minutes or so and an equal number of amateur sleuths working alternately with and against each other, The Witness Vanishes simply has too much plot and too many characters for comfort. Director Otis Garrett, for one, seems to have had a tough time keeping up with the goings-on -- a rather odd predicament for any director -- and the plot has holes big enough for several trucks to drive through. But the entire cast attacks their assignments with gusto and the solution to the riddle is worthy of Agatha Christie herself.
