Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The four-episode British drama series The Uninvited expertly blended elements of investigative reporting, melodrama, and science fiction. Douglas Hodge starred as photojournalist Steve Hodge, who after witnessing a horrible car accident in which the head of the British Nuclear Power administration was clearly killed, looked on in amazement when the "victim" showed up a few days later, none the worse for wear. Unable to get any straight answers from investigating detective John Ferguson (Ian Brimble), Steve did some digging of his own, following the trail of clues to the coastal village of Sweet Hope. It seemed that several years earlier, a terrible storm had caused the village to sink into the ocean; fortunately, all 200 residents were rescued through the Herculean efforts of John Ferguson and his assistant. But were they really rescued? Steve quickly learned that appearances were deceiving -- a revelation brought home when he located 200 skeletons buried within the outskirts of the selfsame Sweet Hope. Created by Leslie Grantham, The Uninvited aired on Britain's ITV in 1997.
