Synopsis by Mark Deming

William Saroyan's award-winning comedy drama of the triumphs and disappointments of the regulars at a rundown waterfront tavern is once again brought to the screen in this made-for-television adaptation of an acclaimed 1975 theatrical revival. Joe (Nicholas Surovy) is a wealthy and good-hearted man who has turned his back on high society and instead spends his days in a saloon described by its bartender, Nick (Benjamin Hendrickson), as "the lousiest dive in San Francisco." As Joe shares his wisdom and Nick distributes drinks, the customers who pass through share the ups and downs of their own lives, most notably Tom (Norman Snow), who serves as Joe's unofficial assistant, and Kitty (Patti LuPone), a streetwalker who dreams of a better life and catches Tom's eye. The Time of Your Life also features supporting performances from Kevin Kline and Gerald Gutierrez; William Saroyan narrates.
