Synopsis by Rob Ferrier
Each episode of The Thirties offers a peek at the American experience of this important transitional decade. The dominant theme of the tapes of course is the worldwide Depression, an economic downturn that flavored every event and threatened to end American life as we knew it. Besides the domestic effects, the Depression allowed the rise of troubling events in Europe and across the seas in Asia as rising tides of fascism and militarism threatened to subsume the light of freedom. Each tape in the series offers a broad overview of a particular span of time. In this particular entry, the Lindbergh kidnapper receives a death sentence. Civil wars sunder Greece and Spain. Roosevelt is resoundingly reelected.
