Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Vivien Martin once again played a girl who found it expedient to disguise herself as a boy in the Paramount western The Sunset Trail. Arriving in the Wide Open Spaces to visit her parents, Bess Aiken (Martin) adopts male drag to fend off the unwanted advances of lustful cowpokes and prospectors. But when she meets and falls in love with Kirk Levington (played by the "first" Harrison Ford), she reverts to her traditional feminine finery. The plot takes a melodramatic turn when, to save her philandering mother's reputation, Bess pretends to be the sweetheart of her mom's paramour. Kirk sees through this charade and rescues Bess from her self-imposed disgrace, and the final scene shows hero and heroine contentedly winding their way along the Sunset Trail.
