Review by Donald Guarisco

Sonny Chiba's final go-round in the Street Fighter series attempts to dilute the brutal thrills of past entries with mainstream spy thriller elements. The balance never gels, making The Street Fighter's Last Revenge a thoroughly uneven mishmash. The plot is needlessly complicated and unfocused as it veers from kung-fu action to spy thrills, even throwing in a weird stab at noir melodrama in its final reels. Like Return Of The Street Fighter, The Street Fighter's Last Revenge also recycles key elements of the first film (including a dockside finale reminiscent of the final fight in The Street Fighter and the flashback to Sugury's tragic childhood that appears in every film of the series). It also suffers from too many silly elements, like the laser-shooting Mr. Black and the ridiculous disguises that Sugury uses throughout the film. On the plus side, the film does deliver plenty of solid kung-fu setpieces and Chiba remains a uniquely compelling anti-hero for b-movie fans. However, even devoted fans of the Street Fighter series may want to think twice before sitting through this muddled entry.
