Synopsis by Augustine Chay
Director Sabrina Van Tassel’s documentary chronicles the plight of Melissa Lucio, the first Hispanic woman who was sentenced to death in Texas. Waiting on death row since 2008, Lucio faces her last appeal: her final opportunity to prove to the court that her two-year-old daughter died from an accident. Interviews with Lucio and her children shed light on how poverty, prejudice, and institutional corruption have led to tragic injustice.
