Synopsis by Tracie Cooper
The Speeches of Our Founding Fathers & the American Revolution centers around the most pivotal years in American history -- namely, the years leading up to the United States's official delcaration of independence from British rule in 1775. The tone is set by Patrick Henry's impassioned "Give me liberty or give me death" speech at the Second Virginia convention, followed shortly thereafter by an inspirational speech from George Washington to his troops before the battle of Trenton, and complemented by Thomas Jefferson's legendary Declaration of Independence. The words of revolutionaries ranging from Connecticut clergyman Peter Thatcher to activist and author Thomas Paine are also featured, as are those of the "Elder Statesman of the Revolution," Benjamin Franklin.
