Synopsis by Mark Deming
Choreographer Mats Ek has given one of the world's most beloved fairy tales a bold new look in this video adaptation of Tchaikovsky's classic ballet. Updated by the Cullberg Ballet to the second half of the 20th century, Sleeping Beauty recasts the lead, Aurora (Vanessa De Ligniere), as a rebellious young woman trying to throw off the superficial trappings of the world in which she lives, and discovering unexpected pitfalls along the way. Sleeping Beauty also stars Gamal Gouda and Gunilla Hammar.
