Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

An umbrella title for 12 two-reel racing melodramas produced by Vitagraph, The Scarlet Runner starred the studio's leading matinee idol, Earle Williams, as Christopher Race, a speed-crazed youngster. Disinherited by his staid uncle, Christopher takes to the road in his fast automobile, "the Scarlet Runner," earning a living where he can. Despite being advertised as a "12-hundred horse power super serial," each episode was self-contained and with a different supporting cast. Co-director Wally Van (aka Wally Van Nostrand) had earlier helmed Vitagraph's spoof on the entire genre, The Fates and Flora Flourflush.
