Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Jane Fearnley, who alternated between playing virtuous heroines and seductive vamps with the greatest of ease, topped the cast of the Famous Players four-reeler Scales of Justice. On this occasion, Fearnley is cast as Edith Russell Dexter, on trial for the murder of her wealthy grandfather (Mark Price). The case is thrown out of court when District Attorney Darrow (Paul McAllister), hopelessly in love with Edith, cannot bring himself to prosecute the woman. It turns out that Edith is innocent, but this hardly compensates for the fact that her life and reputation have been ruined by her liaison with a drunken scoundrel named Walter Elliot (Hal Clarendon). Legendary stage actress Mrs. Leslie Carter was surprisingly shunted to a supporting role in this adaptation of a play by John Reinhardt.
