Synopsis by Hal Erickson
The tenuous financial situation of the British middle class in the early 21st century provided most of the laughs in the BBC1 sitcom The Savages. Marcus Brigstocke and Victoria Hamilton starred as Adam and Jessica Savage, a "just-getting-by" married couple with two troublesome children, Nicola (Liberty Morris) and Luke (Jake Fitzgerald). Trying to make ends meet on Adam's meager income as a cartoonist and Jessica's slightly larger weekly paycheck as a travel agent, the Savages could not handle their rambunctious kids, so the task was handed over to Adam's father, Donald (Geoffrey Palmer) -- who likewise had the devil's own time dealing with domestic matters. The Savages debuted on April 24, 2001.
