Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Dark-eyed Marion Leonard, previously a mainstay of D.W. Griffith's Biograph stock company, was the star of the three-reel gypsy melodrama The Romany Rye. The story revolves around a gypsy fortune-teller (Leonard) who falls in love with a wealthy young man. But the girl's tribal sweetheart isn't about to give her up without a fight. Even after the heroine marries her rich lover, her ex-boyfriend lurks in the shadows, waiting the first opportunity to reclaim her. This happens when the husband's mother comes to visit, a fact that causes the tempestuous gypsy bride to have a hissy-fit. She angrily storms out of her house and back into the arms of her former paramour. Things really begin heating up in the final reel, when the husband and the ex-lover fight a gun duel over the girl's affections.
