Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman) wants to attend the school's prom with her girlfriend Alyssa (Ariana DeBose). When New York City stage stars Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) catch wind of this predicament, they decide to intervene, thinking that an act of kindness will improve their image and resurrect their careers.
