"He reminds me of someone we all know but I just can't place him," says Diana Palmer (Jeanne Bates) when the Davidson group finally comes face to face with The Phantom (Tom Tyler), the benevolent jungle ruler recently rescued from a ferocious lion by native helper Moku (John Bagni). Professor Davidson (Frank Shannon) and his group find themselves prisoners of the Brenner saboteurs soon after but are quickly freed by the ever-present Phantom. In the ensuing battle, our hero is left unconscious in a native hut subsequently blown to Kingdom Come by a well-aimed hand grenade.
