Synopsis by Bruce Eder

Among the most low budget of late silent productions, The Old Oregon Trail tries to tell the tale of Thomas Mercer and a party of settlers heading west to Oregon. They get across the John Day River but are set upon by outlaws who try to steal their horses. But a trio of cowboys coming back from a drunken interlude at the nearest saloon -- all three almost ready to fall out of their saddles -- ride in and break up the outlaws' raid. The heroes pass out after completing their brave deed -- which, given the numbers and the odds involved, was arguably facilitated by their condition -- and awaken in the morning, a bit confused but honored by the honors accorded them. And one of trio (Art Mix aka Denver Dixon), at the urging of Mercer's pretty daughter Billie (Delores Booth), decides to try and sober up and lead a cleaner life. Several years later, he crosses paths with Billie Mercer once again, and must save her from a new threat.
